Hi, Outlook is a very common email client so I am posting this in the hope you can help.

If I send a test email to a gmail address, I can view it in Gmail on the web and it looks the way it should. The 'view in browser' link also works well enough.

But, when I receive and open the email in Outlook, there is a huge space above the article title
(3consult.co.uk/index.php?option=com_cont...l-newsletter-content)

[or below the logo, cannot work out which.]

And there is another line added in before the text. When I 'view source' in Outlook, the CSS (which the component has taken straight from the site template) is:
<h2 style="font-size: 190%; font-weight: normal; color:#0269B3; line-height: 140%; margin-top: 0pt; margin-right: -15px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: -15px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 15px; padding-bottom: 0pt; padding-left: 15px;">Raise funds, profile, and friends.</h2>

So there is NO margin or padding top or bottom, yet I get these huge spaces. Any ideas as to why? If my emails are going to look silly in a common email client I'm not going to look very competent :(

Je vous remerci,
Gareth

Your content is fully defined with H4, is there a reason for that?
That would explain the huge spaces on Outlook.

Title h4 in the component template editor is:

padding-bottom: 5px; margin-top: 13px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0pt; font-weight: normal; line-height: 120%; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;

In the site template is:
{padding-bottom: 5px;margin: 13px 10px 10px 0;font-weight: normal;line-height: 120%;}
and
{font-size: 120%;line-height: 130%;}

So I don't see how this would cause this issue? And it doesn't happen in webmail when I view the exact same message there...

Really grateful for this excellent support and planning to buy the business edition imminently!

padding-bottom: 5px; margin-top: 13px; margin-right: 10px; margin-bottom: 10px; margin-left: 0pt; font-weight: normal; line-height: 120%; font-family: Helvetica,Arial,sans-serif;

So 13px space before the text and 10+5px space after the text.

Could you please add a screenshot of Outlook and add red areas where you have extra space you would like to remove so that we could know exactly what could be the problem.

Ok, that helps a lot.
So indeed it's not because of the H4.
Do you have an online version of your Newsletter we can check?

Please make it visible and published.

Just looking at that newsletter online, there may be another issue there. The font size is bigger than articles elsewhere on the site.

Is perhaps the font-size: 120%; being applied twice? i.e. is the component applying that css to the font, although online H4 is already the size needed?

There are three things I would like you to do:

1/ There is still a H4 around the entire Newsletter.
Maybe you applied a H4 style to the tag itself. If so, please remove it.

2/ The style applied to the article title is :
margin: 25px -15px 0px 0px; padding: 25px 15px 0pt 0px; font-size: 190%; font-weight: normal; color: rgb(2, 105, 179); line-height: 140%;
Please remove everything except the color.

3/ If that still didn't solve your problem, please try to don't include a link on the article title (there is an option for that when you include your tag)

Hi John, taking these one at a time then to avoid confusion:

1) The CSS for the acyba TEMPLATE only is
<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;"></span></p>
<table style="border: 10px solid rgb(255, 255, 255);" mce_style="border: 10px solid #ffffff;" dir="ltr" align="center" border="10" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" height="800" width="680">
<tbody>
<tr>
<td scope="" align="right" lang="" valign="top">
<span mce_style="font-size: xx-small;" style="font-size: xx-small;">
<span mce_style="font-family: helvetica;" style="font-family: helvetica;">
This email contains graphics, so if you don't see them, {readonline}view it in your browser{/readonline}.</span></span><br>

<p><img style="border: 0pt none ; margin: 13px 0px; vertical-align: top; float: left;" mce_style="border: 0pt none; margin: 13px 0px; vertical-align: top; float: left;" title="3Consult Fundraising, marketing and new media consulting." alt="3Consult Fundraising, marketing and new media consulting." src="http://3consult.co.uk/images/email_logo.jpg" mce_src="http://3consult.co.uk/images/email_logo.jpg" height="100" width="680"></p>

//THIS IS WHERE THE ARTICLE IS BEING INSERTED//

<h4 style="text-align: left;" mce_style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">
If you’d like to find out more, <a title="3Consult Fundraising, marketing and new media consulting." href="http://www.3consult.co.uk/contact-3consult.html" target="_blank" mce_href="http://www.3consult.co.uk/">visit the 3Consult website</a>, email gareth@3Consult.co.uk, or call us on 020 8133 4818.&nbsp; We look forward to hearing from you.</span></h4>

<p style="text-align: left;" mce_style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;"
mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">We use email with utmost integrity.&nbsp; We send very few emails, people we have a direct connection with, and only when we believe the content will be of genuine interest to them.&nbsp; &nbsp; But if you do NOT want to receive further emails, then you can </span><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">unsubscribe</span><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">{unsubscribe}</span><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;"> here</span><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">{/unsubscribe}</span><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">.&nbsp; We'll be desperately sorry to see you go, but we always abide by best practice and you will receive no further emails.&nbsp; Gareth Squire, Partner.<br></span></p></td></tr></tbody></table><p><br mce_bogus="1"></p>

I'm literally just inserting the article via a tag into the above, then clicking send. So how H4 wraps around the whole thing I don't know. You need to know the ARTICLE will all be in H4, because that's the why the SITE template is set up. So viewing it online you will see everything below the .contentheading as H4.

I can send the source code OUTLOOK is viewing/generating if it helps?

This now then is the source code for the entire newsletter, taken from Tiny MCE:
<p><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;"></span></p>
<table style="border: 10px solid rgb(255, 255, 255);" mce_style="border: 10px solid #ffffff;" dir="ltr" align="center" border="10" cellpadding="10" cellspacing="0" height="800" width="680">

<td scope="" align="right" lang="" valign="top">
<span mce_style="font-size: xx-small;" style="font-size: xx-small;"><span mce_style="font-family: helvetica;" style="font-family: helvetica;">This email contains graphics, so if you don't see them, {readonline}view it in your browser{/readonline}.</span></span><br>
<p><img style="border: 0pt none ; margin: 13px 0px; vertical-align: top; float: left;" mce_style="border: 0pt none; margin: 13px 0px; vertical-align: top; float: left;" title="3Consult Fundraising, marketing and new media consulting." alt="3Consult Fundraising, marketing and new media consulting." src="http://3consult.co.uk/images/email_logo.jpg" mce_src="http://3consult.co.uk/images/email_logo.jpg" height="100" width="680"></p><h4 style="text-align: left;" mce_style="text-align: left;"><span style="font-family: helvetica;" mce_style="font-family: helvetica;">{joomlacontent:132|type:intro|link}If you’d like to find out more, <a title="3Consult Fundraising, marketing and new media consulting." href="http://www.3consult.co.uk/contact-3consult.html" target="_blank" mce_href="http://www.3consult.co.uk/">visit the 3Consult website</a>, email gareth@3Consult.co.uk, or call us on 020 8133 4818.&nbsp; We look forward to hearing from you.</span></h4>

I've just worked out what's happening with the H4 thing.

If I position the cursor in Tiny MCE at the start of a line of text with H4, it inserts the article inside the H4, not before it.

And, if I move the cursor ONE position to the left, that is now just after the logo, it inserts the tag inside the P element of the logo.

So does the component's insert tag command need to be reviewed so that the tag is inserted inside a P element all of its own, and always after a ">" and before the next "<" ?

There is also a (in my view) spurious (unwanted) <BR> element being added at the end of the tag, which I have to remove in 'edit html' in order to maintain snesible layout.

Hope this all helps. I will test now further and report back.

John, thank you so much for your support and for bearing with me.

I've made adjustments to my template CSS so that the ONLINE newsletters look right. Hasn't affected my other content in any bad way.

The issue above with the insert tag command remains, but I will just tidy that up each time I insert an article into the template. At least the template is 100% now.

All I have to do now is sort out Outlook. A latest image below of that.

The online version is here:

The source code in Outlook still includes the following values of 25px for top margin and padding. Where oh where could these values be originating?
<h2 style="font-size: 190%; font-weight: normal; color:#0269B3; line-height: 140%; margin-top: 25px; margin-right: -15px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 25px; padding-right: 15px; padding-bottom: 0pt; padding-left: 0px;">Raise funds, profile, and friends.</h2>

Have a look at your AcyMailing template, in the area "Style for the content title" and you might find your answer.
