TOPIC: Could not instantiate mail function

Could not instantiate mail function 10 years 6 months ago #2741

I am running the enterprise AcyMail, and everything was working...

Then suddenly I get "Could not instantiate mail function" when mailing. The only change I can think of was setting up the Cron - but I reckon that should have no effect?!?!?

I am using PHP (and it worked previously..)

What to do?

Jens

Hello Jens,

This error can appear if you already sent too many e-mails and you are on a shared hosting with some limitations.
So if you recently sent a lot of e-mails (between 100 and 500 per hour, depending on your hosting company), you should simply wait an hour and this error will disappear.

This error can also appear if you changed your mail configuration (usually the "bounce address")

Do you have the same issue with your Joomla e-mails? (confirmation, request password...)

If so, that means there is an issue with your mail server and you may want to contact your host to know more about it.

If you can send and receive Joomla e-mails, then there is probably something in the AcyMailing configuration which should be configured differently.

those can be mailed as well as text-only. it appears to be html-mails that are the problem

Getting closer... text e-mails are working fine whereas html are not working.
So I guess the test e-mail from the AcyMailing configuration page is working fine, am I right?

Could you please turn OFF the option "add names" from the AcyMailing configuration page (tab 'mail'), I know sometimes it can break the send process for html e-mails.

What's your provider by the way?

The downside is that the name of the receiver won't be added to the header of the e-mail, neither the name of the sender or name of the reply-to but that's not really important.

Hi guys,

Just FYI.

I've been facing the same issue. Unfortunately turning off the add-name option doesn't help.

I came from Czech Rep. and our alphabet includes a lot of special characters.
So I found out the issue occurs in case the subject of mail contains some of them.
I could provide the list whether you are interested in that.

Well,this is my input. :-)

Hello Pavel,

Thank you for your feedback.
A list displayed on this thread could be very useful at least for Czech users.

Hi,

I have also encountered the same problem with a Swedish character and was very pleased to get this answer right away.

Keep up the good work,

Yesterday I tried to send a newsletter from one of my site (www.giovanipsicologi.it) with "acymail", a joomla software, and this error appeared: "Could not instantiate mail function."
I noticed that the same issue appears also if I try to send from other sites.

Last week I sent a newsletter without problem!

I tried also to turn OFF the option "add names" , but without results! :(

How I can solve the problem?

Hello,

Did you check that article?
www.acyba.com/en/support/documentation/2...e-mail-function.html

Also, if it was working fine last week and now it's not working any more on several of your websites, you should contact your hosting company to ask if they modifed something on the mail function which could explain you can't deliver messages any more.

Hi,

None of the elements from our doc helps you to avoid that error?
www.acyba.com/en/support/documentation/2...e-mail-function.html

If not, are you able to send a test message from the Acy configuration page?
And when you create a Joomla user, do you receive the notification message from Joomla?

To the same e-mail address?
Are you able to send a test Newsletter from the preview screen to you (and to an other e-mail address out of your domain name) as html and text version?

I recently upgraded to the latest version of Acymailing and now suddenly I am getting this error message. I haven't changed any settings from my previous version which was working fine. What can I do?
