Customize a view using the Joomla MVC

AcyMailing uses the Joomla MVC, that means you can copy any AcyMailing view in your own template and personalize the view as you want.

The main benefit is that you will be able to update or upgrade AcyMailing without losing your modifications.

Once you copied the file in your own template, you can modify the copied file the way you want.
Joomla will check that the file exists in your own template. If it exists, Joomla will load your own file and if not, it will use the default file from AcyMailing.

This method should be used only by advanced users as it requires some knowledge in php and html.

To customize the "modify your subscription" view

  • Copy the file components/com_acymailing/views/user/tmpl/modify.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_acymailing/user/modify.php

To customize the "unsubscribe" view

  • Copy the file components/com_acymailing/views/user/tmpl/unsub.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_acymailing/user/unsub.php

To customize the module view

  • Copy the file modules/mod_acymailing/tmpl/default.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/mod_acymailing/default.php

To customize the Archive Newsletters view (Newsletters listing)

  • Copy the file components/com_acymailing/views/archive/tmpl/listing.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_acymailing/archive/listing.php
  • Copy the file components/com_acymailing/views/archive/tmpl/listing_newsletters.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_acymailing/archive/listing_newsletters.php

To customize the Newsletter online version view (one single Newsletter)

  • Copy the file components/com_acymailing/views/archive/tmpl/view.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_acymailing/archive/view.php

To customize the Archive Lists view (listing of all lists)

  • Copy the file components/com_acymailing/views/lists/tmpl/listing.php in templates/YOUR_TEMPLATE/html/com_acymailing/lists/listing.php

Customize messages displayed by AcyMailing

AcyMailing uses the standard Joomla messaging system to display messages on the screen.
If you want to modify the way messages are displayed, you should modify the CSS loaded by Joomla template.
This won't be only applied to AcyMailing but also to all other components using the standard Joomla messaging system.

Most of Joomla templates will load the default Joomla message system CSS file:

  • On J1.5 : templates/system/css/system.css
  • On J2.5 : media/system/css/system.css
